Manila is the bustling capital of the Philippines, located on the eastern shore of Manila Bay. It is situated on the western coast of the island of Luzon. The city is home to 1.6 million people, and is well known as the economic and political heart of the Philippines. It is also the most densely populated city in the world.
The map on the left shows the location of Manila in Metro Manila. The city is bisected by the Pasig River, which feeds the area with the alluvial deposits that the city rests upon.
I chose this city as my GeoScape Project Study area because I was interested in how the geology of the area affects the lives of people in such a busy city. This website will explore the geological features and processes applicable to the city, and assess the city's risk of hazards, including earthquakes, floods, and volcanic activity.
